A Reading & Writing Summer Intensive

Summer is the best time to strengthen the skills the school year overlooked. Through real books and rich discussion, students build the three skills that matter most — reading comprehension, vocabulary, and writing fluency.

As parents, we know summer is an optimal time to work on the skills the school year either neglected or flagged as weak. For middle schoolers and rising 9th graders, that means reading, vocabulary, and writing. This small-group workshop builds all three through guided reading, discussion, and hands-on writing practice.

Class Schedules

One Reading Class, two groups. The 9th-Grade class runs Saturdays 2:00 – 4:00 PM, Jul 25 – Aug 22, and is now enrolling; the Middle School class runs Fridays 6:00 – 8:00 PM and is underway with seats still open. $65 per session — pick any sessions that fit your schedule. Each session is a standalone unit, so missing a week never affects the next class.

About the Program

Three Skills. One Focused Summer.

An intensive workshop focused on skill development in three key areas — reading comprehension, vocabulary development, and writing fluency. Students read across genres, learn to read for evidence, build a stronger vocabulary, and grow from a single strong paragraph all the way to a complete five-paragraph essay.

Reading Comprehension

Read across fiction, non-fiction, articles, and primary sources — finding main ideas, citing evidence, and analyzing craft.

Vocabulary Development

Definitions, parts of speech, synonyms and antonyms, connotation, and context clues — reinforced with regular quizzes.

Writing Fluency

Standard English conventions, strong paragraphs, clear theses, and the full writing process up to a five-paragraph essay.
